Mandatory Functions:-
* To maintain law and order and assist the administration in this regard.
* Taking various measures to curb crime, disorder and smuggling.
* Agriculture, Plantation, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Health, Cottage Industries, Irrigation Communication.
* Expansion of family planning programs.
* Ensuring the development and utilization of local resources.
* Preservation of public property ie roads, bridges, culverts, dams, canals, telephones, electricity etc.
* To review the development activities of other organizations at the union level and if necessary make recommendations in this regard to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer.
* Encouraging people to use sanitary latrines.
* Registration of births and deaths, blind, beggars and destitutes.
* All types of inventory management.
Solving various problems, village courts, Shalis, development, project implementation, government planning and project implementation, providing various services, providing various certificates including civil certificates, inheritance certificates, death certificates, safe water supply, conducting education programs, maintaining law and order, roads -Construction of Ghats, Pool-Culverts etc.
Optional Activities:-

03. Lighting on roads, highways and public places.
04. Planting and Conservation in general and Planting and Conservation of Roads, Highways and Public Places in particular.
05. Maintenance and management of cemeteries, crematoriums, public meeting places and other public properties.
06. Tourist accommodation and its maintenance.
07. Controlling and preventing unauthorized access to public roads, highways and public places.
08. Occupancy and cause of closure on public roads, highways and public places.
09. Supervision of rivers, forests etc., improvement of sanitary system and taking other measures for the cleanliness of the Union.
10. Ensuring dung, street garbage collection, removal and management.
11. Regulation of criminal and dangerous business.
12. Removal and disposal of dead animals.
13. Regulation of animal slaughter.
14. Regulation of construction and reconstruction of buildings in Union.
15. Controlling Construction of Dangerous Buildings and Monuments.
16. Provision and maintenance of wells, water mills, reservoirs, ponds and other water supply works.
17. Taking measures to prevent contamination of drinking water sources.
18. Prohibition of use in water from wells, ponds or other places of water supply suspected to be injurious to public health.
19. Prohibition or regulation of bathing, washing of clothes or bathing of animals in or near wells, ponds or other places of water supply reserved for drinking food.
20. Prohibition or regulation of wetting of hemp, jute or other plants in or near ponds or other places of water supply.
21. Prohibition of tanning or tanning of skins within residential areas.
22. Prohibition or regulation of quarrying of stones or other materials in residential areas.
23. Prohibition or regulation of construction of brick, earthenware or other kilns in residential areas.
